Preparing Mail Server for Registration

Before registering a mail server in Plesk Expand, there are some preparations that you should make on the Plesk server(s) you wish to use Centralized Mail server(s).

To prepare the Plesk server, follow these steps:

1. Mainly, make sure that this Plesk server has Plesk API RPC installed in it by issuing the command

# rpm -q psa-api-rpc

Note: Plesk API RPC is the software providing data and command communication between Plesk Expand and Plesk servers. Without it, Plesk Expand cannot work with the Plesk server.

If it is missing, install it manually. For installation instructions, see Plesk Expand Installation Guide here.

Note: The same steps should be taken for the automatic migration of the Plesk server content to the mail server you assign it to.

2. Move all Plesk users (Plesk clients and domains) to other Plesk server(s).

Note: For Centralized Mail servers running Plesk 7.5.3 or 7.5.4 for Linux/Unix there are certain limitations. Only Plesk servers running the same Plesk version can be assigned to them. For example, if you set a server running Plesk 7.5.4 for Linux/Unix as a Centralized Mail server in your Plesk Expand, only Plesk 7.5.4 servers can be assigned to it and services by it. Therefore, it is recommended to configure Centralized Mail servers on the basis of other supported Plesk versions (Plesk 8.0 for LInux/Unix or Plesk 7.5 for Windows).
