Managing Centralized Database Servers

On the Centralized DB page user can create and manage a pool of Database servers (DB servers), which run different database types and are assigned to different Plesk servers, from one centralized point. You can access this page by clicking the Centralized DB shortcut in the navigation pane.

Database server (DB Server) is a Database management system of a certain type hosted on a certain physical or virtual server. Plesk Expand supports the following database types, depending on the Plesk server platform:

A DB server is created by registering it in Plesk Expand and assigning it to at least one Plesk server registered in Expand. For details about the DB server registration process, see Registering New DB Server in Plesk Expand.

A DB server can function as a default DB server for a Plesk server assigned to it. The default DB server is used for creating client databases. Other DB servers assigned to the Plesk server are ignored when registering clients on this Plesk server. Only administrator can create a client database on a non-default DB server by selecting it in the list.

The Centralized DB page shows a list of all DB servers presently registered in Plesk Expand. The list provides the following information:

Column

Description

ID

Shows the ID number of a DB server. The ID number is given to each DB server automatically upon its registration in Plesk Expand and depends on the order of its registration. It means that the first DB server registered in Plesk Expand gets ID number 1, the second registered server - ID number 2 and so on.

Type

Displays database type (MySQL, PostgreSQL or MS SQL).

Host

Displays the name of the host server (physical or virtual), on which this DB server is registered.

DB servers hosted on Plesk servers are marked with records Local (server type) server for #N (N is the ID number of the server in Plesk Expand). Local DB servers cannot be removed from Plesk Expand - the corresponding checkboxes are disabled.

Port

Shows the TCP/IP port by which DB server communicates with Plesk Expand. If the field is empty, the DB server uses the default port for its DB type. By default, 3306 is used for MySQL and 5432 is used for PostgreSQL servers. For MS SQL servers, port is not specified.

Databases

Displays the number of client databases registered on this DB server.

Plesk Servers

Shows all Plesk servers assigned to this DB server. The Plesk server for which this DB server is a default one is marked in bold.

You can perform the following operations on this page:

Important: You cannot remove a DB server from Plesk Expand, if at least one Plesk server is assigned to this DB server. If you still wish to delete this DB server, go to the administration page of a desired Plesk server and deassign a Plesk server from it.
