Administering Centralized DNS Server

A Centralized DNS server can be managed on the DNS Server administration page. You can get to this page by clicking the IP address of a desired DNS server on the Centralized DNS Servers management page.

The DNS server administration page lists all Plesk servers assigned to this DNS server:

Column Name

Description

NS (network status)

Represents the network status of the Plesk server:

Active

The server is presently online.

Deactivated

The server is presently offline.

ID

Shows the ID number of the Plesk server. The ID number is given to each Plesk server automatically after registration in Plesk Expand and depends on the order of its registration. It means that the first Plesk server registered in Plesk Expand gets ID number 1, the second registered server – ID number 2 and so on.

Name

Provides the name of the Plesk server.

Group

Provides the name of the group this server belongs to. For more information about server groups, see Managing Groups of Plesk Servers in Chapter 3. Managing Plesk Servers.

Displays the default IP address of the Plesk server.

Plesk DNS Mode

Displays the mode the PleskDNS server is presently in. It can be either of the following four modes:

master

PleskDNS server acts as a primary (master) DNS server for all zones this Plesk server controls.

hidden master

PleskDNS server acts as a primary (master) DNS server for all zones this Plesk server controls. However, it will be hidden from 'other' servers that need the DNS service. This will reduce the load on this server and make it more safe.

slave

PleskDNS server acts as a secondary (slave) server. The primary server will be the Centralized DNS server this Plesk server is assigned to.

off

The DNS service is offline on the PleskDNS. The Centralized DNS server this Plesk server is assigned to will act as a primary (master) one.

DNS Mode

Displays the mode the Centralized DNS server is presently in. It can be either of the following two modes:

master

Centralized DNS server acts as a primary (master) DNS server. All zones (direct and reverse ones) will be configured (or reconfigured) as master (primary) ones on this server. The content of these zones will be controlled by DNSC (DNS Controller).

slave

Centralized DNS server acts as a secondary (slave) DNS server. All direct zones will be configured (or reconfigured) as slave (secondary) ones on this server.

Plesk Clients

Shows the total number of the Plesk clients registered on this server.

Domains

Shows the total number of the domains hosted on the server.

Platform

Displays the Plesk server version number, and the platform it operates on; this can be Linux, FreeBSD 4.9, or Windows 2003 platforms.

Keyword

Provides the server signal word, used for the automatic selection of this server for registering a new client on it, and for the fast search and identification of this server in the list.

L (login)

Note: 1. Only administrator can use this function.

2. You will not be asked to enter login and password, as they were provided during the registration of a Plesk server this Plesk client is registered on.
